West Atlanta Pediatrics News Beat

Healthy Children Winter Topics:

Flu Shots:
We are currently offering flu shots to our patients and their parents in both offices. Please call and set up your appointment now! For parents, the cost is $30.00. We do not file insurance for parent’s vaccines.

Pertussis Outbreak:
In response to the recent news of Pertussis outbreaks in the state of Georgia, we are also offering Tdap vaccines to parents. The cost of this vaccine is $45. Please call to make an appointment or speak with your child’s provider next time you’re in the office if you would like to have this vaccine. The vaccine also includes tetanus, which many adults are behind on. Don't forget that caretakers and grandparents need to be vaccinated too.

Updated Asthma Protocols:
We have recently updated our asthma protocols. If your child is currently on medication for asthma, we will be asking that you come in quarterly for rechecks. We have found that our patients with asthma do much better when they are educated, followed regularly and have medications prescribed and adjusted according to how well the asthma is controlled. When you come for your asthma visits, please bring all medications (including inhalers and aerochambers) with you along with your peak flow meter if you have one.

Checkup Schedule:
From November through March we have fewer well checkup slots available in order to accommodate the larger number of sick children who need to be seen each day. Well checkups are very important, so please don’t forget to call and schedule your child’s checkup a few weeks ahead of time to assure that you get the time that you would like.

As a reminder, well checkups are at the following ages:
Early discharge (in 1st week of life)

2 weeks
12 months

2 months
15 months

4 months
18 months

  6 months
24 months

9 months
30 months - (Wellcare and Medicaid patients only)

Every year after age 2
